I was fortunate this week to go to several great photo events. The first was a reception for the opening of a show of 'Himalaya: Takeshi Mizukoshi' and The Banff Mountain Book Festival.

Takeshi Mizukoshi's work is stunning but I also found it darker than any other mountain or mountaineering work I've seen before. The images are spectacular with fantastic detail. I would definately recommend seeing the show.

The second event was a showing of Craig Richards work at The Avens Gallery in Canmore. Craig's work is also spectacular but far softer. Craig won the Summit of Excellence Award at the Banff Mountain Film Festival for 2004.

The third event was a day long seminar with Bert Fox, Gordon Wiltsie & Bill Hatcher (all three of National Geographic). It was a very informative seminar and having my portfolio critiqued by these guys was more than a little daunting. The seminar was skewed towards adventure photography but more than worthwhile for anyone just to get insight into how an organization as established as NG goes about selecting stories & images.
